Adesuwa Omoruan is dubbed the "queen of selfies" by her siblings. She confesses to taking more selfies than regulars photographs. When Adesuwa Omoruan was a child, she never thought or imagined herself becoming a broadcaster; it was the last thing she ever thought of becoming. As far as she was concerned, the lifestyle of reporters was not up to par with the kind of life she wanted, as the young dreamer that she was at the time. She wanted a life that was rich and full of the best life could offer, although she wasn't seeking a life that was necessarily flamboyant. "I just felt that journalist were not paid enough... My idea of a journalist wasn't just working at that time. Sometimes they looked very stressed, very few of them had cars... Growing up, I had this picture of what I wanted to be in life..." She had wanted to become a banker! As a child, she had taken trips to the bank with her mother on several occasions to cash-in her moth
The man who was to found the world's largest software company, Microsoft, was born William Henry Gates III on October 28, 1955 in Seattle, Washington State on the West Coast of the United States. As of June 2016, Bill Gates is estimated to be worth $76.6 billion. He currently holds the enviable position of the richest man in the world (Forbes values him at $77.75 billion) ahead of Amacio Ortega and Jeff Bezos in 2nd and 3rd positions respectively. He has held the position from 1995 to 2007, 2009 and since 2014.
As a young man, Gates parent had intended for him to study law, but at 13, he enrolled at Lakeside School where he took interest in programming after the Mothers Club at the school bought a Teletype Model 33ASR terminal and a block of computer time on a General Electric(GE) computer for the school's students. He developed an interest in programming the GE system in BASIC, and got permission to skip his math classes to pursue his interest. He wrote his first computer program, an implementation of tic-tac-toe that allowed users to play games against the computer. Gates was nevertheless fascinated by the machine.
"There was just something neat about the machine."
Later, Bill Gates and three of his friends, including Microsoft co-founder, Paul Allen, offered to help Computer Center Corporation (CCC) to find bugs in their software in exchange for computer time. This offer lasted until 1970 when CCC went out of business.
The following year, however, Information Sciences, Inc, hired Gates and his three friends (Paul Allen, Kent Evans and Ric Weiland) to write a program in Cobol. It was perhaps Gates first pay job in the software world. He also wrote his school's computer program to schedule students in classes. This came after his programming ability was discovered by his school administration.
When he turned 17, Gates and Paul Allen founded their first enterprise, Traf-O-Data, to make traffic counters based on Intel 8008 processor.
After scoring 1590 out of 1600 of his SAT, he enrolled into Harvard College. According to Wikipedia, "In his sophomore year, Gates devised an algorithm for pancake sorting as a solution to one of a series of unsolved problems presented in a combinatorics class by Harry Lewis, one of his professors. Gates' solution held the record as the fastest version for over thirty years; its successor is faster by only one percent. His solution was later formalized in a published paper in collaboration with Harvard computer scientist Christos Papadimitriou."
Afterwards, Bill Gates dropped out of Harvard to found his own company with childhood friend, Paul Allen. His parents where supportive of his decision. After reading the January 1975 edition an issue of Popular Electronics, Gates devised a clever scheme which led him and Allen to work with Ed Roberts' led Micro Instrumentations and Telemetry Systems (MITS), Gates and Allen found a partnership they called "micro-soft" (between each other) and had their first office located at Albuquerque, New Mexico.
On November 26, 1976, Microsoft was registered with the Office of the Secretary of the State of New Mexico and the company went on to revolutionize the computing world. Bill Gates never returned to Harvard to complete his studies. In fact, he didn't exactly have an academic direction.
On July 1980, Thomas Watson's IBM approached Microsoft regarding their upcoming IBM PC. Their partnership led Microsoft to become a major player in the industry with the sales of MS-DOS.
Then on November 20, 1985, Microsoft launched its first retail version of Microsoft Windows.
During the early days of Microsoft, Bill Gates was criticized for his managerial style and was known to be an aggressive competitor, a trait he imbibed as a lad since his parents encouraged competition among the kids. He appeared in court in August 27, 1998 for an Antitrust Litigation.
In 1989, he founded Corbis, a digital imaging company, and in 2004, he became a director of Berkshire Hathaway, Warren Buffet's investment company.
As a way of giving back, Gates founded the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation to oversee his philanthropy drive.
