Michael Phelps- the Most Decorated Olympian of all time

Michael Phelps was born Michael Fred Phelps II on the 30th of June, 1985 in Baltimore, Maryland. He is currently the most decorated Olympian of all time with a total of 28 medals to his name. He also holds the records for most Olympic gold medal, 23; 13 Olympic gold medals in individual events and 16 Olympic medals in individual events. In Beijing 2008, Michael Phelps broke Mark Spitz's record of 7 first place finishes at any single Olympic Games. He became the most success athlete of the Olympics, for the third time consecutively, after winning 4 gold and 2 silver medals at the 2012 summer Olympic.

According to Wikipedia, "Phelps is the long course world record holder in the 100-meter butterfly, 200-meter butterflyand 400-meter individual medley as well as the former long course world record holder in the 200-meter freestyle and 200-meter individual  medley. He has won a total of 83 medals in major international long-course competition, totalling 66 gold, 14 silver, and 3 bronze spanning the Olympics, the World, and the Pan  Pacific Championships. Phelps's international titles and record-breaking performances have earned him the World Swimmer of the Year  Award seven times and American Swimmer of  the Year Award nine times as well as the FINA  Swimmer of the Year Award in 2012. His unprecedented Olympic success in 2008 earned Phelps Sports Illustratedmagazine's Sportsman  of the Year award."

Michael Phelps is built to swim. It is reported that "his long, thin torso offers low drag; his arms span 6 feet 7 inches (201 cm)—disproportionate to his height of 6 feet 4 inches (193 cm)—and act as long, propulsive paddles; his relatively short legs lower drag, and perhaps add the speed enhancement of a hydrofoil; his size-14 feet provide the effect of flippers; and his hyper mobile ankles can extend beyond the point of a ballet dancer, enabling him to whip his feet as if they were fins for maximum thrust through the water."

As a younger man, Michael Phelps had the Australian swimmer,  Ian Thorpe, as a role model. Although, Thorpe had said it was highly unlikely for Phelps to win eight gold medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympic, the latter, however, used the remark as a motivating factor and he proved Thorpe wrong.

"I'm really proud of him not just because he won eight golds. Rather, it's how much he has grown up and matured into a great human being. Never in my life have I been so happy to have been proved wrong."
