A Success Story

A Success Story

by Niel  Darusa

9 months ago I went to fix up my phone. It fell down and the screen was just scattered all over. I literally couldn’t see a thing on the screen. It was a Galaxy s6 plus to be precise. So I took the phone to a phone repairs shop nearby and when I got there I saw the guy Sleeping. For the sake of the synopsis let’s call him Jerry.
Jerry was just sleeping on the table. Well not really on the table, he was sitting down with this head on the table while he dosed off.
So I walked up to him and woke him up then I said
“hi, I hope this is a good time for you, my phone has an issue and I’m here to fix it up”.
He said
“Oh yes sure, this is a great time really, I was just praying”.
I laughed. He then said
“Okay so what is the problem with your phone”.
I gave him the phone and told him the issue with the phone and then we had a long conversation about the issue and how he is going to fix it up and the cost of fixing up the phone. After we had finished our quiet lengthy discussion, I told him that I’ll be back tomorrow for my phone so he would take his time on the repairs. No rush.
“Alright Sir, tomorrow would be just perfect” he says.
The next day I went back over to the shop to pick up my phone and when I got the I saw the guy. Uhmm Jerry, sleeping AGAIN!! So Walked up to him and woke him up then I asked him for the phone. He gave it to me, I tested it out to see if it was all good then I gave him my cash.
Now before I left the shop, I asked him why he is always asleep whenever I come by. He said It’s because he hardly gets customers and so things are usually boring around here. I decided to give him some professional advice and I told him to consider advertising his business, maybe on social media and also get a website for the business.
He then asked me if he does need a website. He doesn’t have a big business really, with just 3-5 employees under him.
“You mustn’t be a big business to own a website friend” is what I said.
“But how about maintaining the website. I mean I’m not really the web developer type you know” he said.
I smiled. I told him he could use a content management system like WordPress. It is a whole lot easier to maintain a website with WordPress. And luckily for him, I am a web developer & designer.
We spent a whole lot more time negotiating the cost and benefits of my offer. He did agree at the end though. So I left and then about a week later, I had finished up his website. I showed him what I had designed for him and he loved it.
“Wow, this is actually really really awesome. I can’t believe you made such a beauty in just a week” is what he said.
Honestly, I was really happy with what he said. We settled everything that was left, payment, administrator and ownership access. I told him I was extremely pleased with satisfaction and I was on my way.
Now The Story Didn’t End There.
About three weeks ago, I had a new phone. A Galaxy s7 to be precise. The issue with my new phone is that, Guess?
You are right, my screen shattered. I decided take it back Jerry seeing he did a great job with my former phone. When I got there, guess what I saw him doing.
You’re wrong this time, he wasn’t sleeping. He told me that he was genuinely surprised to see me. I was shocked he said that so I asked why. He told me that because of the website I designed for him, he now gets more clients needing to fix up and tune up their gadgets. He told me that the business is so good now he is thinking of branching out, maybe to other cities or state.
