Adesuwa Omoruan is dubbed the "queen of selfies" by her siblings. She confesses to taking more selfies than regulars photographs. When Adesuwa Omoruan was a child, she never thought or imagined herself becoming a broadcaster; it was the last thing she ever thought of becoming. As far as she was concerned, the lifestyle of reporters was not up to par with the kind of life she wanted, as the young dreamer that she was at the time. She wanted a life that was rich and full of the best life could offer, although she wasn't seeking a life that was necessarily flamboyant. "I just felt that journalist were not paid enough... My idea of a journalist wasn't just working at that time. Sometimes they looked very stressed, very few of them had cars... Growing up, I had this picture of what I wanted to be in life..." October 28th, 2003: Harvard sophomore student Mark Zuckerberg writes Facemash, the predecessor to Facebook, listing pictures of Harvard students in a ‘Hot or Not’ format.
February 4th, 2004: Mark Zuckerberg launches thefacebook.com with co-founders Dustin Moskovitz, Chris Hughes and Eduardo Saverin from their student digs at Harvard University.
June, 2004: Following a cash injection of $500,000 from Peter Thiel, Mark Zuckerberg drops out of Harvard and Facebook Inc. moves headquarters to Palo Alto, California.
December, 2004: A mere nine months after launch, thefacebook.com reaches nearly one million active users.
May, 2005: Facebook Inc. receives further funding of $12.7 million from Accel Partners.
August, 2005: Official name changed from thefacebook.com to Facebook.
April, 2006: Facebook Inc. receives $27.5 million in funding from Greylock Partners, Meritech Capital Partners and other supporters.
January, 2009: Facebook is ranked most used social network by Compete.com study.
February, 2009: Facebook pays ConnectU, a company owned by former Harvard classmates Divya Narendra and Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, $65 million in a confidential settlement.
July, 2010: In the latest figure quoted on the company’s webpage, Facebook has over 500 million active users.
24th September, 2010: The Social Network, a film claiming to portray the story of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, is released in the US; the film, which was a subject of much controversy, went on to gross an estimated $50 million at the box office. The Social Network has been nominated for six Golden Globe awards and is highly tipped to win an Oscar in 2011.
8th November, 2010: Queen Elizabeth II – TIME magazines’ person of 1954 – joins Facebook, with a page titled ‘The British Monarchy’, which at last count is ‘liked’ by 295,044 Facebook users.
December, 2010: Facebook creator and CEO Mark Zuckerberg is named TIME magazine’s person of the year, beating Julian Assange, Hamid Karzai, the Chilean miners and the Tea Party to the top spot.
