Esther Patrick: a Teenage Dreamer is Building for Herself a Business Empire

She has dreams, lots of big dreams and she has started living them. Her story is fascinating. Just seventeen, Esther Patrick has done what most adults are still dreaming of doing- owning their own businesses. Patrick doesn't just own a business for herself, she is building a business empire.

This teenage sweetheart was born Annabella Esther Patrick on the 13th of September, 1999 in Benue state, Nigeria. Her childhood was rough. She learnt how to survive and be dependent on herself. As a little girl of 8 and 9, she had began developing and honing her talent for commerce, making money for herself, buying and reselling things that were worth some money to her.

It was the late Greek ship merchant and billionaire, Aristotle Onassis that came up with the theory he called 'historic necessities' created by hard times. According to him, experience has taught him that when nature provided man with and agreeable climate and abundant food, he had little energy and lacked initiative. On the other hand, hardship and misery often spur people to find their own resources, which they never suspected existed until then, enabling them to burst though their personal limitations.

This is indeed the case with Esther Patrick. She lost her father at six, was forced to live with her maternal grandmother after being rejected by her father's family, lived with a guardian before settling into a peaceful life with her mother and step-dad in Lagos.

Amidst the turmoil of her childhood, Patrick found strength and courage within herself and at that tender age of eight, she began to build her life all by herself. She took advantage of the little things around her to succeed. Her sense of initiative is admirable.

A fast learner, she picked skills up as she matured into a young and attractive teenage entrepreneur and model. She has learnt to make beads, do makeup for others, nail making, hair making, cosmetics and virtually everything beauty and fashion. There was a time she did a job for a makeup artist, Tifara at her tender age.

Very enterprising and fascinated by things of beauty, she runs her own minispa, Bellacutes and she has had numerous success with it, making deliveries to clients in and outside Lagos, clients in Abuja, Kano and Calabar. For now, her spa is online as against being onsite. She has no physical address for her spa for now, but she sees 2017 has a great yet to accomplish that.

How did she even get to have her own minispa? Well, she needed money for her WAEC (West Africa Examination Council) exam and had none. So, she went ahead to look for a job instead of wasting away at home. She got a job at a spa where her got her interest sparked by all she saw. She learnt fast by observing all the operations going on around her. She was only fifteen.

However, Patrick story is not all about owning a business.

"I was in love with fashion... I have always known how to combine my own clothes for myself... My mom stopped picking my clothes for me when I was seven. "

As a young girl, she had dreams of being a model but quickly dropped it thinking she wasn't tall enough, but all that changed when she found Doxlo House on Facebook and registered with them. There she got to know about all the different aspects in modelling. She is currently training with them. According to her, 2016 is the year she started living her modelling dream.

She has big plans for the future. For starters, she looks to opening her spa at a good location and expanding it. She hopes to have Bellacutes outside of the country in the next three years. In addition to that, she wants to open a spa once she enrols into the University of Jos.

Furthermore, she sees herself going into tailoring school, studying theatre art at some other time and basically doing all she enjoys- living her life to the fullest.

Curiously though, she wants to open her first real business outside of Lagos for three reasons:

- The stiff competition in the city.
- The stress and
- The hot climatic weather.

Patrick is also an avid reader, a trait that has contributed to her success. She told me a lot about growing up, but I can't chipped them all in. Perhaps if you meet her, you'll ask her.

She has a very, very bright future and I'm rooting for her.

You can visit her Facebook page www.facebook.com/bellacutesproducts to discover the world of Bellacutes products.
